How to beat annoying hair static in 5 easy steps

If you don’t look after your hair properly when the weather turns chilly then you may find that your previously shiny and manageable hair becomes dry, brittle and full of static charge.
It’s important that you know how to look after your hair during the colder months to keep it looking at its best and to avoid infuriating static charge.  We’ve got a few tips and tricks for beating the static and then keeping it at bay.
Moisturising conditioners
If you often find yourself a victim of annoying static hair then your hair is probably dryer than it should be.  To help beat the static it’s important that you make sure that your hair is always moisturised and hydrated.  There are a number of ways that you can protect your hair from becoming dry including letting it air dry whenever possible, washing it less frequently, wearing a hat in cold weather and using deep conditioning and moisturising hair products.
Ionic hairdryer
If you can’t avoid using a hairdryer on your hair then make sure that you’re using an ionic hairdryer.  Ionic hairdryers reduce static in your hair by neutralising the charge that causes static.
Use a natural bristle brush
Many hair brushes on the market today are made from synthetic materials which will only increase the static charge in your hair.  Invest a little more into the hairbrush that you buy and choose one that has natural bristles.  Natural bristles will help to reduce the amount of static in your hair and are great for distributing the natural oils in your hair evenly to moisturise and nourish your shiny locks.
Hand cream
If you’re out and about and your hair is standing up on end and clinging to your face and clothes then we’ve got a surprising quick fix for you.  Grab your hand cream, rub a little onto your hands and then smooth your hands over your hair... and voila! No more static.
Dryer sheets
You know those dryer sheets you put in your dryer to stop your clothes getting staticy? Well they work on your hair too.   All you need to do is gently run the dryer sheet over your hair or your hairbrush to get rid of the static, so pack a couple of dryer sheets into your handbag for those bad hair days.
